Alg 2 - 3/25/13

Welcome back folks. I hope you had a refreshing and restful break. As we head into Q4, let's just acknowledge that it gets increasingly difficult with the spring weather and summer approaching to stay focused. The good news is that the quarter will fly by and before you know it, another year will have passed. We have two more ideas to explore - first a continuation of exponentials and on to logarithms, then we'll finish off with some work on statistics and probability. So hitch up your wagons and let's get going! See you in class.
Mr. Alei

Pre DP - 3/25/13

Welcome back folks. I hope you had a refreshing and restful break. As we head into Q4, let's just acknowledge that it gets increasingly difficult with the spring weather and summer approaching to stay focused. The good news is that the quarter will fly by and before you know it, another year will have passed. We shift to the Exeter 3 book upon our return, where we will focus on circles and trigonometry for the remaining time. I've included a link to the updated problem list below, it's tentative but worth printing out. So hitch up your wagons and let's get going! See you in class,
Mr. Alei

SL 1 - 3/25/13

Welcome back folks. I hope you had a refreshing and restful break. As we head into Q4, let's just acknowledge that it gets increasingly difficult with the spring weather and summer approaching to stay focused. The good news is that the quarter will fly by and before you know it, another year will have passed. We will move into trig next. The early going is generally straightforward, but it tends to get confusing fast. So stay on top of things.

Your exploration is also due at the end of the quarter. While that may feel like a lot of time, it's really not, given other things on your plate. Stay up with the intermediate deadlines and you'll be fine. See you in class.
Mr. Alei

SL 1 - 3/4/13

We'll finish up the quarter with our Statistics and Probability Unit Test. Monday is devoted to review -- we'll take the exam on Tuesday or Thursday, based on your input on Monday. On the day we don't take the exam, you can work on your explorations. Remember that the current state of your progress is due, in writing, on Friday. At a minimum, it should be a detailed outline, ideally it is a first draft. See you in class,

SL 2 - 3/4/13

A few applications of calculus this week, starting with motion problems, various other kinds, and then the idea of calculating volumes. The unit test will be after spring break and we will have a practice partner version of it on Friday. You have a review packet that should help you prepare.

It's also time to begin reviewing topics from earlier in the course in preparation for the final IB exams in May. To that end, I have made available several practice IB exams from previous years. Links are below. Do your best to solve the problems but be very patient. Go back to your text and notes and try to figure out your best answer before looking at the markscheme. Feel free to come in with questions.

Finally, if you intend to redo an IA over Spring Break you must make arrangements to get it from me between Wednesday and Friday. If you want time to look it over and ask questions before the break, get it sooner rather than later. It will be due by email no later than 8:00 am Monday, March 18. See you in class,
Mr. Alei
